Posse's Shepherd finalizes deal

Devin Shepherd's agent completed a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday and will be starting the season off shortly in short season ball. "This great news for Posse management. Shepherd has not progressed how we would like to see, and now that he is in a great organization we hope his development can start", stated GM Luddington. Shepherd's star was probably the highest just under three years ago when he was a top prep recruit and had just won the MVP in the AFLAC All-American game. He was considered a tough signing and by the time the June draft rolled around he would fall to the Twins as a fifth round draft pick. It was expected that he would want a 7 figure signing bonus, and after not getting it he headed off to Oklahoma. After a difficult time there he left the team mid way through his freshman year, which was probably the low point of his current career. His new course focused on attending a JC, College of Southern Nevada, but before that stop he played in the 2007 California Collegiate League and was ranked the #1 prospect.

"After his drama-filled spring, he reestablished himself over the summer by helping lead Santa Barbara to the NBC World Series semifinals. Shepherd went 11-for-26 with 10 RBIs in seven NBC games, showing his above-average strength, raw power and hitting ability. Shepherd has the arm strength and athletic ability to profile for right field as well.", Baseball America.

After a slow start at CSN, he ended the season on fire raising his batting average to .343 and proving patience at the plate. What he did not show was power. Due to the lack of power and probably some concerns around his makeup he slipped in the draft to the Cardinals in the 11th round. Now signed, he can put the past behind him and focus on the future.
