Posse go even younger in round 3 of the minors draft

The Posse surprised many of the teams fans in round 3 by selection high schooler Marcus Davis. Typically, the fans are not surprised when the team drafts a high schooler...when it's a senior or even a junior, but Marcus is a sophomore in high school. "We draft based on how we rank the prospects based on ceiling potential. In the past that meant that we were the only team that typically targeted the junior class, but the times have changed. Organizations like the Bears, Millers, Sea Dogs, Prickly Pears and Rampage have all started targeting the same players we like. In the past we would have taken a player like Davis in 2009, but if we believe his toolset is better then what else is out there then why would we not take him. We do believe he will be the rare impact player that comes around every few years and we do not believe that exists in either the 2008 or 2009 drafts.", stated GM Luddington.

The one challenge that taking a 2010 player at this point in time is he is probably seven years away from joining the Posse's lineup. With new rules like the 40 man roster and rule V draft does it make sense to draft the youngsters? "We will have two years of high school and then, hopefully, two years of minor league ball to determine whether he justifies filling one of the 40 spots. If he is the impact player we expect then the decision will not be tough. If he is not then we will look in other directions.".

Marcus is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound lefthanded hitter that has a chance to be something special. He’s a plus runner now and will get faster. The ball also explodes off his bat like you rarely see in a high school hitter of any age.
