Posse go for youth in the compensation round

The Posse received a couple compensation picks this year for the loss of free agents and they decided to go in a very youthful direction with both selections.

With their first selection they drafted high school junior Mychal Givens. Givens is currently the top rated high school junior and brings a strong overall game to the field. He is a natural short stop that fits a similar mold to current Posse prospect Tim Beckham, which means he brings a strong overall game to the field. First he has the ability to field his position, has a strong arm, makes good contact on the ball, has the potential to hit for power and can also run. As is the case with all high school juniors...there is a long road ahead and many things can change. Givens will be playing later in the year in the AFLAC All-American High School Baseball Classic making this the fourth year in a row that the Posse have a player playing in this game.

With the second selection the Posse took another high school junior in first baseman Jeff Malm. Malm has a top 3 bat in the junior high school ranks, that brings power, patience and contact. Always a great thing to see in a first baseman. The Posse have always been a franchise based on power, but currently lack that skill set in the majors and minors with the best youngsters like Casey Kotchman and Cameron Maybin a little questionable on their ability to his 25+ homeruns in a given year.
